Power of Three Progress

Posted by Grent Jun. 17, 2009 @ 8:54 AM EDT

So I was pretty much done with the basic engine for the Kings of Awesome entry for Power of Three when I lost the drive I had it on. Luckily I had a backup, so I didn't lose it all, but it definitely set me back a couple days, and in my despair I decided to start working on the engine for the enrty with the Combusting Potatoes (which will likely be the same engine as my third entry with the unnamed team). One thing led to another, and I think what was initially designed to be an engine test is going to evolve into a full-fledged mini game! Well at least this way I'll be able to get feedback on any glitches before the release of the other games, right?

"Well that sounds interesting," you're probably saying aloud to your monitor right now, "but what's this game about?"

Since you're talking to your monitor, I won't actually answer that question, but I will leave you with this:

Power of Three

Posted by Grent Jun. 6, 2009 @ 3:20 AM EDT

So I feel like I'm tne only one involved in Power of Three who hasn't said anything about it in my "blog" (like anyone reads this damn thing anyways), so I'm just gonna suck it up and hop on the bandwagon.

I'm currently programming for three groups, which will hopefully not change since the due date has now passed:

First, I'm part of the Kings of Awesome with AustinoThe3rd (art) and LiquidOoze (music). We've got a really cool puzzle-platformer in the works right now. I'm really excited about what we can do with this concept!

Very shortly after signing up with KoA, I got into contact with Ughanation (art) and Muesical-Pope (music) to form The Combusting Potatoes. As such, we'll be bringing you a fun side-scrolling adventure packed with, well, awesome. Oh, some special moves, too. Those'll be cool.

Last but not least, I ended up on an unnamed team with Feuse (art) and Andrewboy895 (music). Andrew came up with this one and, without spoiling anything, I'm just going to say this is going to be a fun, Portal Defenders style game with a subtle hint of commentary on the state of Newgrounds as a whole. About as subtle as a train wreck, at least. Feuse actually just showed me some of his art earlier today, and I can't wait to see it in action!

My project with the guys at Super Paint Brawl is still go (I'm actually upgrading the engine for it for use in the KoA game), but obviously, these three come first (because they're on a time limit).

Further bulletins as events warrant. Other than that, see you guys Septemeber 5th!

WAT

Posted by Grent Feb. 23, 2009 @ 7:51 AM EST

Yeah, no, screw everything else I was doing. That was the old me, who didn't finish projects. Now I'm teaming up with the fine people at Super Paint Brawl to bring forth a fighting game of unparalleled awesomeness. Go sign up for an account there and check it out!

New game in the works!

Posted by Grent Aug. 8, 2008 @ 12:45 AM EDT

...because I know how many people read this, especially now that I'm not posting on the forums anymore. More than anything, this is for my own personal records.

I've put Run 'n' Gun on hold for the time being in order to work on a project that will, hopefully, be done a lot sooner. It's a time crisis-like game I'm calling Lights, Camera, Action! because of it's references to various movie-like things. For example, instead of getting on a plane to go somewhere, a character will simply walk off one set and onto another.

The fun thing about this one is that all the graphics are done using only the paintbrush tool. It keeps my focus on the game rather than on the art. I plan on four weapons, and four or five levels. It should be done in a week or two, at which point I'll probably start working on Run 'n' Gun again.

New Game in Progress!

Posted by Grent Dec. 13, 2007 @ 9:20 PM EST

Not that anyone reads this page, but I've got a new game in the works. It's called "Run 'n' Gun," and it's sort of a mix of Thing Thing, stick figures, and a little Star Wars: Battlefront (or any similar game, Battlefront was just the first thing that came to mind). I'm still working on the basics at this point, but essentially you run around and shoot stuff, specifically bad guys. The goal is to take over the "command posts" (using Battlefront lingo, I'll probably call them something different) and defend them from enemies. You'll probably be fighting alone, (unless I have really good A.I.) but you can reinforce CPs with various powerups using cash you earn from killing stuff. The maps will be large, there will be many guns, and blood will splatter. And maybe a plot. No promises, though...

So far I was going to include the following guns:
Double Glocks (because one alone wouldn't be awesome)
Desert Eagle
M16
Generic shotgun (maybe a SPAS)
"The Disc," basically a shield that can be used to attack (slow reload time)

If you do end up reading this page, I would like suggestions for more weapons and for some fight music.

EDIT: I've added the following to the list of weapons...
Flamethrower
Uzi
Grenade Launcher
Tazer
Chainsaw
Sword
Stun Gun (Not in the traditional sense, more like Millie's from Trigun)
Nail Gun (see Quake)
Drill Gun (drills into enemies, blood, etc.)
Freezer cannon (freezes enemies)
Electromagnet (jacks weapons)
Gravity Hammer (Probably will rename, but it will function like HAlo 3's gravity hammer)
Stick (just a stick)
Funnel Gun (See Unreal's Flak Cannon)
BB Gun
Mega Buster
Chaingun
Rocket Launcher

I also have come up with some more things the player will be able to do:
Take and shoot from cover
Do a dash/roll thing
Slide
Wall jump
Snap necks
Slice people in half

Play my game!

Posted by Grent Jul. 24, 2007 @ 8:48 PM EDT

If, by chance, you ended up on this page, I highly encourage you to try my game, Pulse. When I first submitted it to the portal, the enemies spawned too slowly and people thought it was boring. By the time I fixed it, no one was looking for it anymore (you know how it is, no one looks at old stuff unless it got an award). Anyways, if you like it, I could use some more votes. :)
